At the redevelopment business briefing, the union leader went back and forth between confidence and uncertainty, sometimes strongly believing in his fantasy, and on the other hand, strongly defending himself against even the slightest doubt about his fantasy. The word fantasy may sound vague, but it teaches us to desire specific desires. A specific desire may be a promise that will turn into nothing more than ashes, concealing lack. By looking at the other side of illusions, such as, people being pushed out in the process of redevelopment, local communities being dismantled, and unreasonable compensation payments, shows mechanism of redevelopment. The face that was pushed out is the face of the redevelopment system.

재개발 사업자 설명회에서 조합장은 확신과 불확신을 오고가며, 어떨 때는 본인의 환상을 강하게 믿기도 반대로 환상의 작은 의심이 드는 것에 대해서는 강한 방어가 일어났다. 환상이라는 말이 모호하게 들릴 수 있으나, 실은 구체적으로 특정 욕구를 욕망할 것을 가르쳐준다. 구체적인 욕망은 결핍을 은폐한 채 한낱 재가 될 약속일지도 모른다. 재개발의 과정에서 또 다시 밀려나가야하는 사람들, 해체되는 지역 커뮤니티, 턱없는 보상금 등 환상의 이면을 살피며 재개발의 작동 기제를 다시 본다. 밀려나간 얼굴은 재개발 체제의 얼굴이다.
